LibriVox recording of Richard III by William Shakespeare.

Richard III is an early history play probably written and performed around 1592-93. It is the culmination of Shakespeare's earlier three plays about Henry VI, and chronicles the bloody career of Richard, Duke of Gloucester. As the play opens, the Wars of the Roses are over, King Edward IV (Richard's brother) is on the throne, and all is ostensibly well. The problem? Richard wants to be king - and he'll stop at nothing to realize his ambition.

Subject: Brilliant
I LOVE Librivox Shakespeare! It reminds us that we don't have to be professionals to record Shakespeare (though, by the sound of this, more than half of them MUST be!)

Subject: A Pleasure
I absolutely love this! I've been looking everywhere for a copy of this to help with my school work. And it's free! Completely brilliant! I now understand the play far more than I did just reading it

Subject: We don't do sound effects
And if you think you can do a better job of recording this play, by all means either join us at LibriVox or record your own version for Archive.

This is bloody awful. All of the volume levels for each character are off, and whoever compiled the file didn't go through the bother of adding a couple of sound effects with a program like audacity. Richard of Gloucester is simply insufferable with his plodding delivery and overemphasis in all of the wrong places that I had to stop listening after the first act. Insufferable.
